About Us

The physicians who founded Pain Specialists of Greater Chicago did so with one goal: To restore quality of life, to increase function, and to regain wholeness for patients suffering from pain. Chronic pain is a disease. It can be prevented in many cases if acute pain (such as from a herniated disc) is treated appropriately and prevented from becoming chronic. However, once it develops, it requires dedicated and compassionate care and treatment. The effect of pain on one’s quality of life can be successfully managed with safe and effective therapies.

Dr. Goodman and Dr. Glaser have been treating pain together for over a decade following their training at Northwestern in Chicago. The pain syndromes they treat range from common lower back pain and pain secondary to osteoarthritis to the severe pain that can be associated with malignancies and nerve damage. They specialize in performing minimally invasive techniques to manage pain effectively. These range from small joint injections and nerve blocks to the most advanced spinal medication infusion pumps. They include the most recent advances in the treatment of lower back pain including percutaneous disc decompression procedures to treat herniated discs.

The physicians also direct a medication management program utilizing the most recent advances in the pharmaceutical treatment of pain. This program is designed to tailor the medications to the individuals needs based on the type and severity of their pain, the daily pattern of the pain, their level of activity, and other factors important to the individual. Patients are monitored regularly by the physicians and specially trained nurses to optimize the benefit derived from these medications while minimizing side effects and the risk of complications.

The Pain Specialists of Greater Chicago not only provide the highest level of clinical care, they are also involved in numerous nation-wide studies designed to evaluate the benefit of medications and technologies designed to control acute and chronic pain. These studies range from skin patches delivering local anesthetic to the latest advancements in the formulations of opioid medications. They have recently been invited to participate in a study evaluating the well known effectiveness of spinal cord stimulation in treating chronic pain that does not respond to conservative care, medications, or interventional techniques.
